Sine Wave Project- and Back in the Studio Posted on 2017-02-28 by Jolleen Sogioka

This last week has not been without its challenges. Not only did I have a meium invasive procedure on my back which left me in a lot of pain, but I was then in a car wreck just a couple of days after that procedure that put me out of commission for several days. So, studio time this week was limited, but I did manage to make it in to spend a bunch of time asking questions and going over the material I've been studying. I had also gotten my first low grade on a test, EVER, and was rather disappointed, but after speaking to my student advisor, he reassured me that I was doing great and not to let all the negative activity get to my head.

Our big project this week has been to create a song out of a single Sine Wave form, which if you don't know much about, its incredibly difficult to do. However, the tutorial videos that they gave us really help in showing you how to literally build something from basically nothing. I finally think I got my rhythm section the way that I want it, and now all I need to do is to work on the melody. It won't be easy, but I know that with a little effort, I can make something that sounds decent. We've already been told that its not going to come out sounding great but that the main idea is for the school and potential employers to see that we know the basics and how to create something if we don't have what we need to simply render its sound into the computer.

I'm not going to lie, at first, I was super frustrated doing this assignment because I felt like nothing was coming out the way that I wanted it to. Nothing sounded even remotely right, and on top of that I felt like my wave lengths didn't match my note values on the grid, so I did what every good student does when they feel stuck- I asked the teacher. After sitting down with Jules and getting a better idea of what different things are better to use for creating different instrument sounds, I felt more confident about what I was doing. So, when I got home, I completely scrapped my first sets and started fresh. Now, I am a lot happier with what I've got so far even though its not going to be great. I've resolved to be understanding of the fact that I can only do as much as the software will allow me to do when creating a song out of a sine wave.

The Struggle is RealPosted by Jolleen Sogioka on 2017-02-21

So what happens when you're having the worst two weeks of your life and nothing seems to be going your way? What do you do when life is trying to push you away from your dream? You PUSH BACK!   Not only did I get horribly sick and had to stay away from all humans for about a week, but then yesterday, right in front of the Studio Building, I got T-boned on my way in to help my mentor with a session...
