Chapter 5- Microphones Posted on 2016-11-05 by Jolleen Sogioka

Chapter 5 was not difficult, rather it was full of information to memorize. Unfortunately I am not one who can memorize information simply by reading it; instead I have to take insideous notes and have the opportunity to work with the equipment that I'm learning about, hands-on. Having the chance to do these things truly helps to solidify the information into my mind so that I know what I'm doing with it the next go around.

Microphones are a fairly simple piece of equipment to understand, as long as you can get a basic idea of how each one is powered and the importance of the elements inside of them and how that makes them work. The important thing to remember is that there are different microphones for just about everything and each mic has its own very unique characteristics. For example some mics are great for capturing the sound of the room and for vocals, but that are a rather poor selection for miking instruments. Its truly fascinating how specific elements work and what they are best used for and how they are best utilized.

I am now well into week six and my excitement and enthusiasm for what I'm doing has only grown more with each chance I get in the studio. My mentor Brian has been a great help in explainging how everything works and in answering my questions when I have them. Each week we go deeper into the information of the text and we also go over a ton of information that you don't find in the book! Its nice to have a mentor who is willing to go the extra mile to make sure you learn ALL the ins and outs of the business!

Generally speaking I have a picture for each different posting, however this time I just couldn't think of something that would be worth seeing for Microphone week... I suppose that I could have taken a cool mock up picture with me behind the mic, but I didn't really think of that until now. Either way, I'm just excited to be nearly halfway through the program. I know that this will prove to be a great blessing to me in career, bank account, and personal growth/mental and emotional health.

Its time for me to hit the studio now, as we have two recording sessions today! Pics coming later tonight!

The Struggle is RealPosted by Jolleen Sogioka on 2017-02-21

So what happens when you're having the worst two weeks of your life and nothing seems to be going your way? What do you do when life is trying to push you away from your dream? You PUSH BACK!   Not only did I get horribly sick and had to stay away from all humans for about a week, but then yesterday, right in front of the Studio Building, I got T-boned on my way in to help my mentor with a session...
