Lesson 3 Posted on 2016-07-28 by Kyle Simmons

Chapter 3 was about digital audio, but what stood out ot me the most in this lesson was the nyquist theorem. The nyquist theorem says that your highest frequency can only be half of your sample rate. If your sample rate is 41khz, your highest frequency can only be 22.05khz. This explains a question I had before, which was "Why do we record at 48khz sample rate when the human can only hear the differences in sample rate up to 44khz." It is so we have more headroom for frequency when we are recording somebody.

I shadowed Matt in the studio as he was working on one of his personal projects. He recorded a drum cover of Rise by Katy Perry, and is going to play it at MinuteMaid Park for a promotional video the Astros are using for their website. I got to watch the learning process of trying to play something on the drums, as well as how to loop a portion of a track in ProTools.
