Lesson 5
Patch bays definitely make life easier in a studio for connecting the various pieces of equipment together. Ernie showed me his patch bay, it's able to switch between the different type of connections, normaled, half normaled, parallel, and open. He gave me a set of connections on paper, and said patch it all in. No problem, fun for me. He also told me, to learn the patch bay in any studio you work in, and by not knowing with a client or clients in the room watching, they would tend to lose confidence that you didn't know what you're doing. It was also a wise idea to keep a written track of your patching, cause sometimes you might have to set it up again.
Signal flow became a simple concept for me. I'm my mind "Where does it come from, what stops along the way, and where is it going to?" This also relates to trouble shooting, reverse your path. I have had a lot of experience with live P.A., and I know live is not the same as a studio, but the concept is the same. I love this stuff!
