Lesson 10
That day was a bit uneventful, I was having serious problems getting my Pro Tools to work, we tried many things but to no avail. Even Ernie's other student was also having the same problems. Bottom line for any of you PC users, a serious suggestion. Download everything you can, MAINLY the drivers, even if you're not sure download it. Download Protools but DO NOT install just yet. You can download the virtual instruments and loops but can wait till after. FIRST THING, uninstall any virus protection, firewalls, all of it, you can reinstall them after. DO NOT put your iLok in yet!!!! Download team viewer and install for the next part, student services will ask you to do so anyway. Then get hold of someone in student services and they will get on team viewer and walk you through the rest of the process. I just got my iMac which was much easier to install, damn you apple! HA I hope you read this and it helps, so you don't have the same headache.
On a better note, the rest of the week was great! Ernie called me in the next day to sit in on a session. I came in at the end of one session with a few members of BB Kings band, VERY cool. The next session came in was a gospel group. They laid down drums and bass tracks for one song. Ernie wasn't engineering this, but it was interesting to watch the other guy at work, very animated, and he really knew what sound he was trying to get. Then I was called in to sit in on another session on Fri. Ernie had already laid down some guitar and keyboard tracks, this was for vocals, drums, and bass. The drums and bass were done first, these guys were good only a few takes. The singer who had written this song years ago in college, was finally getting to record her song. Hysterical song about her relationship between her man and her vibrator. Really cool session I was able to get a closer look at how Ernie ran his sessions and what he did during the process. He was able to kind of talk me through what he was doing at the same time, very informative.
