Ch. 14 Dynamic Processing - Compression Posted on 2014-11-18 by Ben Foster

Last week at the studio was slow so there was a lot of free time.  I did not come last Monday because I was just catching a cold but I managed to come on Tuesday and Thursday.  I began playing the Alto-Saxaphone on Thursday and there is a whole lot of Dynamic Range going on there! I also watched John and Andres finish tracking and mixing their remix of Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" using the Dave Smith Prophet and learned a little more about analog synthesis.  During the mix, I listened as the compression brought out the punch in some of the synthesized pad textures as well as the basslines.  John also uses the FG-X Mastering Compressor to increase the stereo width while adding compression and low punch to the mix.  I'm very close to purchasing this plugin and a few other Slate Digital plugins as well.
