I LOVE automation. I've been exploring automation in Ableton for a few years, I really like automating delay and filter sweeps.  Last week at the studio I was practicing using the analog Drawmer Quad Gate DS404.  John showed me how to send a drum track out of Pro Tools, through the Mix Dream, into the outboard gear, and back into pro tools with the gated result.  The Drawmer was way more precise than the Waves SSL Channel Strip gate I've used in previous mixes.
