For the first day working with Doug, we went over all of the questions from the chapter 1 test and he introduced me to ProTools 10 and 11. We talked heavily about the way sound travels: f/s, microphone placement importance, etc. The connection and importance of math in recording became more apparent to me when Doug explained how sound waves travel differently based on distance, elevation, sea level, and the environment. Doug also went more into depth about phasing and masking, showing me that they both can be used to express different sounds from a recording. The last thing we discussed was how much there is to learn about every aspect of recording and mixing. It's a never ending lesson but if the passion is there, then the success will come with the small things. Doug and I have hit it off quite well and I feel he is the best mentor I could've been paired with.
