Chapter 1 Posted on 2016-09-23 by Andrew Gervacio

The first week was exciting even though the material coveredwas pretty easy to grasp. It allowed me to see how the course lays out. I really enjoyed how it is interactive and and goes between reading and watching videos. As far as in the studio, The Lair Recording Studio is amazing from the gear to just the consruction and the time that was put into diffrent acoustic enviroments in all of the difrent rooms! The live room, the isolation booths, the control room! Larry Goetz knowledge was amazing telling me all the acoutic settings, the hows and the whys. We talked alot about the range of the human ear and how to mix st optimal decibal levels, also taught me about the fatigue your ears experience when working in this enviroment and how to know when to rest caue your ears are normally shot after a couple hours. All in all tons of knowledge was imparted on me.

chapter 2&3Posted by Andrew Gervacio on 2016-10-13

I feel very fortunate to have Larry Goetz as my mentor! His vast knowledge of how the analog hardware works from his experience over the years of working with and repairing all the equipment has given me an incredible depth! We went over so much that was not covered in the book i almost see the two chapters as one with the way we understood the basics of electronics and how it led to every step in the way we create the reproduction of sound! All the flaws in each step were covered and we went into the thought process of the corrections that were made in the digital world! Very cool to learn about how some accidents became known as a sound or a warmth when really it was just the way the electrical frequency reacted in that realm! learning how we recreate the harmonics lost when going to digital because we are so used to the way it makes us feel! All in all it was a great couple chapters! Read More >>
