Chapter 1 Posted on 2015-09-17 by Arthur Garros

This chapter is all about the basics of sound. Covering topics such as frequency, amplitude, how sound is measured (Hertz) and what exactly the measurement is measuring. (A sound wave)

Seeing how a sound wave is structured, in a cycle of one high pressure region, and one low pressure region. I learned what frequency means, how frequently a cycle occurs within a second. One cycle per second is equal to one hertz. The same pitch can be produced from different instruments, so what differentiates those sounds is their timbre. The timbre is the combination of various factors that differentiate the sound from others of the same pitcha and volume.

A sine wave's sound is simple and single toned while the violin has harmonics and overtones. It is the timbre of the instrument that makes it different.
