So today was just what I needed. I've been slightly overwhelming myself I think by setting such high expectations for myself as to where I feel like I should be at this point, Now, I do believe it's of course a great thing to set goals and want to accomplish them, but I also realize there must be a balance as to what extent this goes. So I sat down with Scott and explained how I'd been feeling and he helped me to see things in a much better light. While I've been so worried about the impression I'm making along with the progress I'm making, he let me know that in his eyes I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be in this journey. It felt good to hear that he really believes in me and has a lot of faith in my potential. He told me that he was asked to go on tour, so while he will be gone for 3 weeks he's already set up for me to work with another great engineer Kevin Houston during that time. I'm always open and willing to learn from anybody in the industry. Networking is a huge part of this. I'm excited for Scott and I'm excited myself as well to gain even more insight and knowledge about all of this. After we talked a bit, he showed me some things on Pro Tools to help me understand how to start using the virtual instruments to create beats and such. ( I have a feeling I'll be hiding out in my room having a blast playing around with my new Novation Launchkey 49) Also I expressed to him my interest in submitting an entry for the Focusrite and Caroline Records "Win a Record Deal" contest, so he listened to quite a few of my original songs and helped me narrow my decision down to four songs which was a lot of help for me. He also offered to let me record the video at the studio and have someone film it. I'm really looking forward to doing that. I left with a huge smile on my face today and just overall excitement to see where this journey in learning to be an Audio Engineer and Producer will go. I have a love for the mystery in the unknown.
