Chapter 14 is about dynamic signal processing, the main topic in this chapter is compressors. A compressor is to limit the dynamic range of the audio signal you are running through it. Compressors detect an audio signal and processes it, and after it gets processed the compressor will control its dynamic range and you decide how much of the audio signal you want the compressor to process. The main function of a compressor is to make volume more consistant on a continuous recording. This chapter also briefly goes over gates, a gate lets a signal pass if its above a threshold and attenuate it if its below that threshold. It reviews many key compentents when mixing like the attack, release and threshold. This chapter has a lot of different useful information that was kind of hard to process but I will be going over it constantly to make sure i understand the concept of everything it went over.
