Sky Ravenscroft — Millvalley Recording Connection
My name is Sky Gabriel Ravenscroft, I was born in southern California but have lived in many different states through out my life. As of right now I live in the north bay area of Califonria. I have always been pulled to music for as long as I can remember. I stutter, so communication through speech has always been a little difficult for me. Which is why music stands out to me because it is communication from the heart of the artist and isn\'t bound by conversation or what you should sound like when speaking. Music is total freedom of expression. And believe me, in my struggle with stuttering I know what it is like to have restricted expression and communication. I respect all forms of music, I do not believe there are genres superior to others. Everything is expression and should be respected as such. Whether it is the grittiest grindcore or Beethoven\'s Ode to Joy, they both express the passion of the artist and should not be judged as inferior or superior. I grew up with my parents listening to and playing blues and rock-a-billy however my personal taste prefers a little harder spin on their preferences. I love bands like Black Sabbath, Fu Manchu, Graveyard, the Misfits, Motorhead, Truckfighters, Dozer, (early) Sword, the Melvins, Electric Wizard, Sleep, SSS. I could listen to those bands all day. Additionally I enjoy bands like Everclear, Smashing Pumpkins, the Strokes, Interpol, Mazzy Star, Cat Power, Amy Winehouse, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the Cure, the Smiths, Radiohead, Joy Division, Type O Negative, Slayer, Celtic Frost, Sepultura, Danzig, Asian Kungfu Generation, Yoshida Brothers, Minor Threat, Fear, Adolescents, Stiff Little Fingers, Primus, Bob Dylan, Violent Femmes, Bone Thugs, Wu-Tang Clan, Andre Nickatina, Dion and the Belmonts, I could go on forever with how many bands I listen too. I even have a soft spot for Manowar and Celtic folk music. I do not really listen to the radio much, however I enjoy listening to when N.P.R. features up-in-coming artists. I play guitar and I am currently teaching myself panio along with music theory. As a child I played trumpet and alto saxophone but have long forgotten how to play either and the theory behind playing them. So I figure teaching myself music theory again will help tremendously in the field as a sound engineer and composer. I plan on using what I learn at the Recording Connection to bombard all in which I desire for my future. I want to be able to record and master any genre and compose music in any genre. I want to specialize with live shows and recording bands . I want to fully indulge myself into the music world on all fronts, even playing music as well. I am eager to learn and ready to step into the music world.
