Chapter Sixteen & Seventeen MIDI/ Automation Posted on 2017-04-26 by Sonya Glaessner

These past few weeks we have worked both in the Mezz and the red room at subway. We have been working on creating a song using midi. It was extremely interesting to watch the process unfold using the plugin Expand to basically create an entire orchestra of sounds. We used a keyboard to create the notes, however, later while doing my own midi assignment I began to actually create a beat using only my keypad. Granted, it was far more difficult than using a keyboard to create something listenable, however, the process was worth going through in order to get used to another way of doing things if one perhaps doesn't have a keyboard or some kind of instrumental program. I must say, we haven't touched upon animation very much during my observations. However, I did take it upon myself to begin trying to use animation on some of the vocal tracks I was mixing. It's so cool, for lack of a better word, to get to heighten the vocals and lower them in order to create a more dynamic and meaningful Sound. At first animation can seem overwhelming, but in time, i believe it will become a magnificent way of achieving the best sound possible, which will make for a very happy client.
