Mastering is so important when it comes to putting the last touches on your music. Most people in the music industry simply associate mastering with making music as loud as a human can bear; but mastering is much more that that. We’re actually starting to get out of the “loudness wars” phase in the audio world, which is good. This means future music will have more dynamic range and won’t sound like walls of sound coming out of your headphones, car speakers, etc. Mastering also puts some “polish” and “refining” to regular mixes. Other things go into mastering too like putting in PQ Codes and IRSC Codes. These codes are used to insert start and stop times for songs, index information, song titles, and the table of contents for the whole project you’re mastering. Mastering is an essential stage of making a good record.
