We were placed in the mastering room today with mark. He had to master a few tracks a client had sent him. It was quick since he already knew what he was looking for plus he said there wasn't much he could do with what the client had given him. He spoke about situations where sometimes the client doesn't realize they didn't give him good mixes to master but he has to work with what he gets. Later we mostly spent most of the time in the mic locker going over all the different mics and what each does. I"ve been through it before so it was kind of repetitive. I still don't have all the names and functions memorized though but i feel like that's something you have to spend your own time on at home studying and trying to remember what each mic does, its uses, and polar patterns.
