What a great experience we had these two days! My mentor Jim Sommers and I were asked by head of Nickel City Opera Valerian Ruminsky to do all the sound and footage of the La Boheme Opera at the Riviera Theatre in Tonowanda New York. La Boheme is a classic opera originally written by the great Giacommo Puccini. Friday Night we began the set-up wiring all the stage microphones and running the sound board as well as shooting the archival footage with a Sony HDV camera. Sunday Afternoon for the big premier we went and fixed any techincal problems we noticed on Friday and re-shot the real footage we were going to mixdown, as well as the audio to hand personally to the director himself. Along with the experience of seeing my first opera in action I felt that we were actually apart of something really cool. No other school you can find around here offers that kind of hands on experience that you get like the recording connection does. All in all we did a great job and im hoping to get some more in the field experience like this as the program continues!
