Week 4 (Part 2) - Speaking of gear... Posted on 2015-08-22 by Nathan Cunningham

I had mentioned earlier this week about doing some vocal recording in my mentor's studio and we finally got around to doing that on Wednesday this week. I'm very glad because the vocal tracking seemed to go very well and I am glad with how it turned out. It's now onto the editing and mixing part of the audio this coming week and will piece it all together in order to have it turn out the best it can be. I went through about 3 passes, sadly only 3 because with my last pass I ended up having my voice crack and I couldn't go any further in the song because of that. I had sang too much the several days before so I had overdone my voice I guess you can say.

I do have news though however, this week I have been able to get Studio One 3 Prime on my computer so I can test out the functionability of using Studio One before I go out and purchase it. I however still don't have an interface so I can't quite do any actual recording here at my house. It's a little sad that I can't do that but it's what I have to deal with for the most part. I'm really interested though because I found out that Studio One 3 Professional comes with Melodyne which I am SOOO interested in getting.

I happened to make a trade with a good family friend of mine who has a recording studio of his own and I traded him a cymbal for all sorts of gear that I can find useful in the future. I received a DOD Quad Channel Noise Gate, Tascam PB-32P Patch Pay, a Symetrix 302 Dual Microphone Pre-Amp and a MicroFX De-Esser and even a 7-piece drum microphone set by CAD. I've figured out I definitely got a good amount of gear for this trade and I'm extremely excited about all of it. :D From here on I'll be learning how to use all of this gear to it's greatest extent because I'm grateful for anything I can get through my friends.

That's basically all the news this week, the chapter online was about microphones and it was no huge news to me because I was very familiar with it for the most part.

Cheers everyone, have a great week!
