In this chapter I refreshed my memory about the basic properties of an atom- starting with the protons(positively charged), neutrons(neutral), and electrons(negatively charged). When the number of protons and neutrons are the same, the atom is said to be "stable". When electrons move among the atoms of matter, a current of electricity is created called a "charge". Conductor- balances electricity (silver, gold, copper). Insulators- atom w/ electrons that don't flow freely (rubber, plastic, glass). Resistance(ohms)- the ability to conduct electricity is based on the resistance of the material to the flow of electrons. (in wire it depends of how thick, long, and what it is made of) Voltage- the measureof the amount of electromotive force (the higher the pressure the higher the voltage). A device the provides a path for electrons to flow is an electric circuit. Current(ampheres/amps)- measure of the amount of electric charge passing a point in an electric circuit per unit of time. Circuit- circular line, route, or movement that starts and finishes at the same place, since negatively charged electrons can't just jump to a positive atome, the must wait for a bridge link between the positive and negative agre called a "circuit". Short circuit- when too many electrons go across at one time and destroy the bridge by heat. Electronic circuit- made up of singular electronic components such as transistors, capacitors, diodes, resistors, and inductors connected by conductive matieral thorugh wich an electric current can flow and various operations such as amplifying signals, filtering, and alternating(layed out of a printed circuit board/pcb). Electronic circuits can be analog or digital. Analog circuit- carries a voltage that is either continuous or changing and can be series or parallel. Digital ciruit- transmits information, capable of transmitting a binary values in the form of an off or on signal: 1- represented with a positive voltage. 0- represented with 0 voltage/off. Direct Current- flows electron in one direction/ current that flows from the negative contact to the positive contact(batteries, solar panels, low voltage applications). Alternating Current- electrons movement that is present when you plug something into a wall socket/ the electrons flow in both directions and changes directions 50 or 60 times per second.
Us voltage standard- 120v- 60 cycles per second
Europe standard- 220v- 50 cycles per second
The journey of electricity to your home!
Powerplant-->set up tansformer tower-->transmission substaion-->distribution substation-->tansformers--> HOME !
On tuesday the 11th, I actually got to observe a session with Chris, the actual Godfather's Pizza Godfather, and their directors. It was a great experience to watch a proffessional speaker work and hear the directors comments. I could tell how their ears are different from mine due to years of editing audio work. Overall I learned more about Pro Tools and got to see it in action! I am now more excited for the program and cannot wait to learn and observe more.
