Finishing My Final Mix For Recording Connection Posted on 2018-08-14 by Alyson Hilland

Wednesday will be my last day with Recording Connection before I offically become certified in Audio Engineering.  Is it weird to say that the end nearing is bittersweet?  Bitter in the sense that I loved learning from Uncle Joey at Crystal Clear Recording Studio and that I was given so many amazing opportunities as a Recording Connection Student.  Sweet because I learned so much and realize that as an audio engineer I will always be able to continue gaining knowledge.  I know I had the best teacher possible along the way who always helped put textbook facts into real life scenerios.

For my final assingment, I didn't want to just go simple with one of the mixes Recording Connection provides.  I wanted to go outside the box and challenge myself.  You might recall that I mentioned bringing people into the studio to record in one of my last blogs.  I brought a violinist and guitarist.  I used that recording session for my final assignment.  I turned the 45 minute practice session into approximately 9 minutes of quality music.  Nine minutes, three songs, six tracks, and one final mp3 file.  This was probably my proudest accomplishment to date.  Throughout you will find hints of compression, EQ, panning, leveling, time-based delays, and etc.  I didn't want this final assignment to be something just for my portfolio, but also for the portfolio of the musicians.  I wanted to make this a project that others can listen to and be proud of or excited about as well.
