Today’s lesson dealt with sync and automation. Joey Heier explained to me what the SMPTE timecode is. Basically it is the standard method of interlocking audio, video, ad transports. A transport is all of the functions like play, record, rewind, stop, and fast forward. An interesting note is console automation. I always wondered when I saw faders on a mixing board move by themselves….”how the heck is that happening? And why?” it operates in three basic ways…a write mode, a read mode, and a drawn (rubberband) mode. I’m getting closer and closer to the end of these hands on studio sessions. I kinda don’t want them to end….but I must move on.
