Chapter 13, Equalization. This chapter helped clear up some questions I've had qbout EQ's I've worked with in the past, but also raised some as well. For starters, I don't understand the equation to find Q or the bandwith at all. I also don't understand the use of the Program EQ. I get that it has pre-determined frequency settings and range, I just do not understand when I would want to use that type of EQ. Parametric EQ seems like the only EQ that really makes sense to use, since it's so felxible with the artist, at least in the studio. I like all the EQ's I have seen on ProTools, they each have a purpose. The AirKill EQ is awesome, I've always wanted something that could help me maniplulate certain ranges of songs better, whether it be to isolate drums, vocals, anything really. The 1 band EQ is good for the quick fixes but the 7 band EQ is where it's at. I love the detail you can go into with that EQ and Doug helped me understand it a lot with his videos this chapter. I'm excited to start EQing "The Siege", especially since Doug was saying that it was the track that needed the most work. As for my studio trip tomorrow though, I'm really hoping to understand this formula better, my head was spinning trying to understand it! If anyone has a way to explain it to me though, it's Joey Heier.
