So last week I finally got the oppurtunity to help out Joey with setting up and recording a session. The group that came through was a "gypsy-jazz" trio. Now, I've never heard of gypsy-jazz before so my interest was tipped off after hearing this. After setting up a few mics, doing a line check, and setting up all the cameras in their respected spots with the respected film connection students, the jazz-trio started to record. About an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes the trio went on for. I was blown away by how immensly talented these guys were. The bass player was around 19 years old and he held the beat so well he might as well been the drummer, and the two older gentlemen were playing specially designed acoustic guitars for the style of music they were playing. Many arpeggios and breakdowns later the trio was finished recording, and the final result without and EQ or compression was amazing. Joey really does know what he's doing, I was so amazed by how good the quality of the recording was with no plug-ins being used at all. So all in all it was a very educational and fun trip down to the studio last week. I hope I can help out with another session real soon!
