I learned today that the sound engineer could either make Chris Brown sound like Kanye West singing, or Kanye West sound like Chris Brown singing - and it all starts with a great microphone. When I walked into class I informed my mentor of a new microphone sale online. We both checked out the microphones that were for sale online. Out of about 20 different microphones he said "Don't waste your money." Some of these microphones were over $400 but being sold for less than $80! I thought at first he was just being biased towards a favorate company he liked. However, after explaining the importance of frequency response, response pattern, sensitivity, and type of microphone, (dynamic, condenser, ribbon) I quickly understood the power of investing in a quality microphone. Can't wait to hear what my voice sounds like on a Neumann U87!
