Chapter 12 Posted on 2015-01-05 by Chris Alicea

Chapter 12 - Mix Theory. Mixing is the key element of a producer/engineer. The better the mixing talent often means the more money you can make. Therefore this chapter was one I had to read twice. I'm blessed to work with such a knowledable mentor who showed me the ins and outs about mixing. We talked about many things during my hands-on lesson for this chapter. We talked about panning different parts of a drum kit, reverb on vocals, compression on the vocals, and the most important piece of knowledge: pleasing the customer. Every other sentence my instructor would tell me "Just remember, the best way to mix is to look at the customer you're mixing for." My mentor would follow that with "If dude starts bobbing his head that means he likes what you're doing. If dude's not feeling it, try somthing else." It's all about making a great sound and being one of the best to create/produce. However no matter how important the history books are, making money is ultimately the goal when mixing for someone else.
