Lesson #13
Lesson 13 in the bag. This lesson was all about storyboarding and how a filmmaker can benefit from it. The assignment was to storyboard the first ten pages of my screenplay. Originally the assignment called for the use of still photos, but given that budget requirement for my screenplay and the lack of personnel and resources at the moment, I elected to draw out my storyboard, with permission from Tim in student service. Now, I'm not the most talents artist in the world, but I believe I was able to portray the essence of what I'm looking at, shots and angles and the like. Truthfully, I'm not the biggest fan of story boarding. I will acknowledge the benefits of it, however. When I read, I see the way I believe the scene entire scene looks in my head. Just the way I think. Probably comes from all the films I've seen throughout my life. Its a movie in my head 24/7. But, if I'm directing, I still need to convey to the camera crew and acts where everything is places and how the camera will move. Storyboarding is an effective technique for this, if not very time consuming.
Moving on to my work with Angelo, we are preparing for the next round of interviews with Homeland Center and Hospice. It was suppose to take place on Monday, but we never heard from our contact, so it will most likely be in other two weeks. Other than that, just a number of depositions as usual.
On another note, I started the social networking assignments that comes along with the program. I have registered the domain Fractured Helm Productions. I must have wrote down about two dozen brand names and that was just the one that spoke to me. I have also created and facebook page, an tweeter account, and linkdin account and a google + account. I've completed up to lesson 6 and will complete lesson 7-10 this week. I notes one discrepancy when working on my student page. It has me registered as a student in the Philadelphia Recording Connection instead of Film. I'll have to get in touch with the schools web department this week to sort that out. I also have to get started on lesson 14 of the text this week as well, which is about breaking down my script.
I got a hold of Alain. He told me he hasn't gotten to my script yet, but he would this week. I'm still waiting to hear from him. Hoping it will be soon.
