Lesson #16
So its been awhile since I’ve posted. Getting auditions together has been very time consuming. And as it turns out a total bust. I held three rounds of open auditions for the three roles I need for the scene I’ll be shooting. The first audition was towards the end of December. I held it at my apartment, which was not ideal. I would have preferred something more professional, but I wanted to avoid having to spend any additional money. No one showed for that.
For my second attempt, I rented a gallery space in town and held auditions from 10am to 5pm on a Saturday in the middle of January. With the exception of two of my friends who came out and auditioned as a personal favor, no one showed for that either.
This last attempt which I held just yesterday, I rent the gallery space again and offered compensation of $50 to the actors I cast for the one day of shooting. I held the auditions on Saturday from 11am to 7pm. Only two young ladies showed, neither of which were fit for the role, in talent or appearance wise.
For all three of these I contacted every production company I could find to help spread the word. I contacted every talent agency in the area and posted flyers at all the colleges. I joined several Facebook groups who sole purpose is to connect actor, crew persons and filmmakers in central Pennsylvania and posted notices on those pages and my own. Still no one showed.
So I have decided to use my two friends who did audition and take the advise of Tim in student services and play the third role myself. Assuming those friends are still willing. I’m setting the date for the shoot for February 15th. I’m already very behind where I want to be and I think this is the appropriate move to make at this juncture. I have two individuals who have volunteered to work as make-up artistes for me, but before I agree I’m going to be trying to get in touch with a professional body painter. As Mira is a purple skin alien, it seems more appropriate. If she is unable or unwilling than I will buy the paints myself and have one of the other make-up artist who volunteer to help do it.
Angelo and I are still meeting regular either just to catch up and talk about projects in the works or for depos.
I was able to send my 3rd revision to Alain. I hadn’t heard from him in a few weeks however. So I e-mail him again just yesterday.
On another note. I’ve completed the first draft for another one of my screenplays. A suspense thriller called “The Dive” and have started on the first draft for a romantic comedy called “Chasing the Noise”. I have one more screenplay to type up so I’ll have an number of stories to pitch when I go out to Los Angeles as well as a concept for a TV series. I will update within the next couple weeks.
