Chapter 13: Equalization Posted on 2014-03-16 by Kevin Peacock

This time I want to back track to my last entry at address something I forgot to touch base on. My mentor showed me something that was very important to begin a mix.  Before you start to go crazy with processing make sure your levels are not only right but to get a better since of the overall tracks you are working with, adjust the levels and pan first.

EQ (equalization) for a long time I always thought that every single track had to be eq adjusted. The outlook has changed now since go over this topic with my mentor. Now I understand that a combination of proper micing and room in some cases you dont need to eq. My mentor proved that when he showed me a session with zero processing ( no eq, reverb, delay, nothing) and I was blown away by the mix. Of course thats not everysingle time but it can be done. With that being said, EQ is a tool that you use to fix/ correct a frequency, not to change the initial sound drastically to the point where its sonically different than the original unless that was desired. As always STAY TUNED
