Lesson 14, 15, and 16 Posted on 2013-07-01 by Michael Ingram

Lesson 14 talked about plug-ins and the different things they can do.  Everything from echo to reverb, compressors to EQ.  Everything that you add to change the sound is done by using plug-ins.  When using a reverb plug -in you can make the sound of your voice sound like you are on top of the Empire State building or in a tiny little room.  Same thing goes for echo.  A long delay to sound like your in a valley between mountains or a short delay just to add depth to your voice so that you sound as if you are with a group of people.  No matter what you need or want to do with the recorded sound, a plug-in will assist you.

Lesson 15 was a review of 12, 13, and 14.  It revisited the different types of equalizers: Parametric, Shelving, and Pass Filter.  It also discussed the controls found on a compressor, and expander/gate, and reverb.  I appreciated this lesson a lot because it reminded me of things I may have forgotten.  Even though I know how to use each and every thing that we discussed, and very well I may add, it is still good to know exactly what it is that you are using to get the sound that you desire.

Lesson 16 dealt with USB/MIDI.  This was very confusing to me because I have never dealt with Midi controllers.  I plan on learning how to play the keyboard and be able to use drum machines so that I am a well rounded individual in this field.  I also feel I would be more useful to people.  I know what samples are, and also the use of synthesizers.  Besides that everything else was new and will be a learning experience that I look forward to.
