Yelawolf: Bringing "Classic" to Hip Hop Posted on 2011-12-17 by Zack Zapf

Growing up, there were 2 genre's of music I listened to. Classic Rock and Hip Hop. Till this day this is mainly all i listen to. As i got older and started listening to many other hip hop artists I always wanted that classic rock/hip hop sound. You would get your mix of rock/rap here and there, but it really wasn't that classic rock sound that i was looking and hoped for. In 2008 "classic" hip hop was born by man who goes by the stage name "Yelawolf". in 2008 this rapper released what I beleive to be his first project called Stereo, which was a compilation mix of classic rock songs mixed with a hip hop sound. Yelawolf, from Alabama definately has his own unique sound, and there is no one else in the game like him. He has the sound of a classic rock vocalist, but the flow of a hungry upcoming hip hop artist, which in my opinion makes for great music. Now, in 2011 he is currently signed to a major label (Shady Records) and is still sticking to that rare unique sound he has originated since his first release back in 08. Even in an interview he did a little awhile back he says "You have never heard or seen a hip hop artist mix rock and rap like I do, and no one else in the game does it like I do". Well Yelawolf, you are right on that one. Hopefully 10-20 years from now fans/listeners will say "I want to hear some classic hip hop". For this reason alone, Yelawolf needs recognized, and supported. He created his own trend and who knows where his sound and skill will take him in the hip hop game for years to come...................ZZ
