Christian VoeglerPittsburgh Recording Connection

Final Thoughts Posted on 2018-03-12 by Christian Voegler

So, this is it.  The end of the road at the top of the mountain.  I've completed both the Basic and Advanced Audio Engineering courses, and have two complete studio recordings and several mixed sample tracks to show off my skills.

Looking back, these are what I'd consider the most memorable bits of the program for me:

  • The often wild sessions with West Virginian acoustic blues group The Acoustic Company and listening to their stories from the road
  • Crafting an entire song (of sorts) from a single sound wave lasting less than a second
  • Hollis literally getting blown out of his chair by a backing vocal that was inexplicably too loud
  • The many thoughtful discussions my mentor and I had, on both audio engineering/music and ocassionally other topics
  • The jazz session with Dr. Johnson, being produced by Akil Asoon-and his contagious exuberance
  • My first recording sessions with Jake the Hawk
  • Having one of my blogs mentioned in the newsletter

Perhaps someday I'll look into some of the postgrad courses with RRFC, like Music for TV and Film or Live Sound.  For now, though, I've got as much education as I need to get started, and already have one client - I've been mastering my father's audiobook recordings - with potentially more through my hairstylist.  I've got a flyer made up to post in musical instrument stores around town and I'm more than ready to start a career more personally fufilling and financially fruitful than the day job I have now.
