Been around a lot of drum sets in my day. Seen them being set up countless times. Even played a couple of songs when a friend needed to practice with a beat. Never once have I actually set one up.
As soon as I got to the studio that's what Jake asked me to do and at first I didn't think it was too hard. Until I saw that I literally had to start from scratch with this set and my confidence kind of went out the window. Adjusting snare and symbol heights, tightening toms, angling them to the drummer, it was so foreign to me I didn't know where to begin, but I feel like if I did it a few more times it would start to come naturally.
Didn't actually get to record those drums. Instead I met a local musician with a track kind of like a fast rap ballad with a very positive tone to it. Think the piano and beat of Biz Markie's "Just a Friend" meets a high pitched-fast paced male rapper and you have this song. Helped adjust his mic height and make sure the head phones were working, witnessed Jake track and mix-as-you-go and that was pretty much it.
Also made sure he had my answers to Chapter 5 which apparently still isn't in the system, so if you're reading this Recording Connection please get on that so I can get my ProTools! Thanks :)
