This week Kevin worked on a song that was going on one of his client’s albums. The album that this artist was making is very rock derivative. Most of the song was already tracked. The instruments that were already tracked are the drums, one electric guitar, and one acoustic guitar. The main instrument that was focused on getting tracked was the bass guitar. Usually when tracking guitars at City View they are twice on separate tracks and each track is panned for a stereo image. The bass is recorded a different way. On this song the bass was recorded onto one track because Kevin liked to really separate the bass from the whole mix. After Kevin got the best possible recording of the bass track, him and the client did a light mix to get an idea of where everything was sitting in the mix. When they had a good light mix of all the levels Kevin wanted to work some EQ into it. Kevin went through each track explaining the parameters of an EQ and he would us them on different instruments. The main theme he wanted to convey was getting control of the mud, or low end.
