Tenoch VillaPortland Recording Connection

May 3rd, 2017: First Impressions Matter, Pt. 1 Posted on 2017-05-04 by Tenoch Villa

Portland Underground Recording. It all starts here. This is the first time I've ever been in a recording studio. But the way it felt inside the studio was very comfortable. The lighting, the smell, the sound of songs being mixed. The feel of the studio reminded me of visting a grandparents house but with the A/C on. My mentor Prince Strickland is really cool. Even more than that, he has a real tlanet in producing and mixing. He showed me a few mixes for songs he has recorded and damn, not only did they sound good. But he showed me what he does to make them sound good. He showed me the equalizations of each recording and told me how one of his mentors would feel the speaker to make it real balanced. I was aware of these techniques but he took it further than I ever had so it was cool to watch. On the 7th I go and sit in on a recording session. My first ever. It is only the beginning of my lessons but I feel like I belong here.
