Lecture day: I've been working on a listening assignment, building up a Robyn song track by track. I learned about basic dance song drums and what a "pad" is. I couldn't get the levels right, and I couldn't understand why. It was just a matter of spreading things out! Steve just moved the mid-rangey, similar (in terms of function) stuff up a varying number of octaves, and all of a sudden the bass came right through. I'd heard this mentioned before a couple of times but there's nothing like having it demonstrated in a song I've been trying to put together.
I have more to do on this song and I'd like to finish up anther song before next class, as well. Only 3 weeks left, it's crazy. The last few months flew by. I took the unfinished Robyn song with me to a group interview for an internshipnlast night. I was the least experienced one there, which I thought would be the case. It was so nerve-wracking playing my stuff in front of other people, regardless of how I feel about it when I'm working on it at home. No word yet on the internship (we were supposed to hear back today : / ) but I'm glad I went. I got to see how competitive things are. The other guys seemed really overqualifed. I'm already thinking about my next move.
I got some good automation demos, and a suggestion to get panning effect I didn't know how to make happen. I also learned how to "bounce to disk", kind of a misnomer!
I need to get a mike to finish my song - oh, ghetto self-made vocals, here I come! I have one friend I know can sing; we'll see. Things may not be completely crappy.
The lecture day ended up being all about review and the welcoming speech for the new guy. So! In addition to a hip-hop and rap guy, now we have an electronica / dj. Always cool to see what people are into!
