It's time to kick it up a notch Posted on 2016-04-11 by Nigel Dean

Since I've started this program, I've developed my own pace at which I accomplish specific tasks. The organization of my days, weeks, months has been a carefully planned strategy to insure that I never become to overwhelmed when it comes to my studies, compositions, gigs, and work. When I first started I knew a miniscule amount about music production, therefore when I composed I never fully finished my songs. Instead I was creating rough draft after draft of different ideas specifically because I wanted to wait until I had picked my mentor's brain enough so that when it came time to complete a project, my tracks would sound better than ok. Now that I've been in the program for over half a year I've learned so much that I finally have the confidence to finish things at home without second guessing myself about whether or not it sounds ok. Now when I sit home in my home studio I can complacently say to myself "This sounds amazing!" Not just ok but amazing. It's even gotten to the point now that when I meet other local producers here in San Diego and show them my current projects, they compliment the quality of not only the composition but the production. On top of my work at school I've been hustling my DJ connections to score solid gigs at nightclubs downtown and have even landed a gig at my first music festival! To me all this demonstartes just how far one can go when they put in enought work ethic and confidence in one's self. But now that I have achieved this kind of complacency I need to dehydrate myself again and regain my thirst. In essence, its time to kick things up from 5 to 10. This is not to say that I haven't been putting in my full and best effort this entire time, but rather more intensely, what's been my 100% these past 6 months needs to be pushed to 200% in the preceding time to come. For many, some might think this is an impossible task to accomplish. The average human would deteriorate from exhausting. A cars engine would blow if pushed the RPM to go past 10. But there is a key concept here that many might not consider. I AM NOT THE AVERAGE HUMAN! Quite the contrary, I refuse to be like anybody else and that is why I know I will succeed in my newly developed strategy. One might ask what I plan to do differently. And the answer is simple. I'm going to hustle harder to get more gigs. I'm going to hustle harder to get more fans, I'm going to hustle harder to get the industies attention. I'm going to hustle harder to finish song more quickly. And most importantly of all.....I'm going to hustle harder so that people know that the Sundiatta brand is going to be the next big thing inside their ear canals and there is not a soul on Earth that can question it.

Tracking Posted by Nigel Dean on 2016-05-18

Yesterday in the studio I spent my time tracking guitar. This was a first time for me since the majority of my lessons have been spent on mixing, it was a nice break to finally learn how to track actual instruments... Read More >>
