Lesson# 1
My first day at Playground Studios was very exciting for me. I feel like a kid in a candy store at this place! Chaka is a very knowledgable and professional teacher and has so far made me feel very comfortable here. We began this first lesson by checking out each recording room. Chaka described their unique characteristics and how they are used. I was shown the patch bays for the standard 1/4 inch cables as well as the xlr inputs for microphones. I saw how the patch bays are connected from one room to the other; starting from the mixing room.
I was also introduced to multiple charts used for references when it comes to recording. A note to frequency chart as well as a interactive frequency chart. After that, we descused phasing and how sounds are used land how they can be manipulated. Finally we went over the questions in the text book and went over several particular topics in the reading to discuss.
My strengths in this weeks lesson was my understanding of the material i am learning as well as my prior knowledge to most of the equipment that was shown to me. Though i've had much experiance in a recording studio, no studio is the same. I honestly think my only weekness would be me getting out of my comfort zone as a musician and becoming a knowledge sponge as an apprentice.
