Went over chapter two quiz and the concepts of sound and the science of recording. Tried not to get too ahead of ourselves but got into the basics of connectivity and the importance of understanding the gist of everything related to the recording process. Spent time in ProTools, mainly on vocal tracks. Got some hands on experience toying around with EQ and compression plug ins. Talked about compression and ratios etc, and about the subjectivity of how much to use, depending on song, style, voice, vision etc. Compared and contrasted tracks with and without compression, talked about recording with compression(as close to desired effect as possible as a recording option) and about work flow. Practiced basics of ProTools-how to split tracks, copy paste, basic short cuts and little go to tricks Joe uses in workflow everyday. Good lesson. Joe is the man.
