Lesson Three Posted on 2014-11-25 by Andrew Langdon

Went to Joes studio this time and spent time going over some of his gear, and the basics of what they do.  Spent time on lesson, and went over the science of analog to digital conversion, sample rates, bit depth, etc.  Joe is awesome about making visual sense of things and thoroughly explaining things in a way I understand.  Went over the importance of capturing the feeling of music, and trying to make sure that we dont lose sight of purpose of music-as producer/engineer.  Watched several YouTube videos related to Analog to Digital converters and the subjectivity of every piece of equiptment.  Learned the importance of understanding things in te analog world, since everything on the digital side is modeling analog.  Beginning to really grasp concepts of how sound is recorded and can be manipulated.  Touched on Line and Mic levels, and importance of recording tracks properly to get best sound and avoid headaches with fixing stuff later.  Set up studio for guitar tracking for client. Went of miking amps, setting up preamps, the effect of preamps in mix etc.  Sat in on session. Ran into difficulties with keeping guitars tuned/ Picky client.  Learned importance of getting thing s right and reading situations to not force things creatively just for sake of time.  Learned a lot this week.
