Studio Week 1 Day 1 Posted on 2016-10-06 by Kendall Park

Yesterday I had the wonderful opportunity to go to the studio for the first time, and spend time with Bruce Kirby. We went over the lesson and even though it did make decent sense in the online text book, he helped explain things in ways that my brain could actually wrap around. Using examples and showing tangible evidence was definitely helpful.

Bruce explained frequency to me. I understoof it in the text book but he expanded my knowledge. He showed me low frequencies and how if they don't quite match pitch but are close, it makes an uncomfortable noise that almost sounds like shaking or vibrating but very unpleasant. We also talked a lot about amplitude and that led to one thing which led to another. He ended up showing me that you evenly match pitch and amplitude, and all of the levels, but flip it so the waves are opposite, the sounds cancel each other out, working like positives and negatives. It definitely blew my mind!

It was so much fun being in the studio and I look forward to continue learning. Bruce teaches in such a way that I can actually grasp and understand. Visuals, analogies, questions, and examples as well as word explanations are definitely the best teaching skills to apply for a student to understand.
