Punk Band recording -` Posted on 2014-02-05 by Steven Wellington

It's as fun as it sounds.

Saturday, I went into the studio to observe and help with the recording of the Mortician's (a local punk band) first EP. Each of the band members have a background in other bands (Die Monster Die) or solo pursuit. And each of band members have recorded with Bruce (my mentor) seperately. They recommend Bruce as the #1 sound engineer they'd prefer to record with in Utah which impressed me. Glad he's my mentor.

The day consisted of setting up the microphones and equipment to record with (drums, amp). Then the band members recording their songs. After they recorded their tracks (I think there was five?) and they felt comfortable with how the drums sounded, they rerecorded the guitar, bass guitar and vocals.

Their music was very enjoyable and I would listen to it on my own time. I'll post pictures of this day as soon as the site allows me to.

With the mixing and recording of bands the past week, my mentor and I haven't had a lot of time to go over the first chapter. So we met on Tuesday and went over it thoroughly. I was worried we wouldn't have a chance to go over it as much as I wanted to, but my mentor made sure we did. So far, I am very happy with the program and the mentor who took me on.
