Lesson 2 - Electronics

Lesson two was ok, I guess. It had to do with electricity and how it works. When I showed my chapter quiz to Phil, he said that everything looked pretty good. He also said to not worry about trying to understand all that “Sciency” stuff. He told me that it’s good to know but that it’s not really necessary to understand it in order to become an audio engineer.

The chapter was kind of a review for me anyways. I took an “Intro to Electronics” class at SWCC and just let me say this… If I was ever interested in becoming an electrician, that interest disappeared after that course was over. I found it pretty difficult to understand all the things going on in a simple circuit. You see, Science and Math are kind of difficult subjects for me. When I was in High school, I even went up to my math teacher and asked her to name all the Careers that required Some kind of math other than “Elementary Math”. “Why?!” She asked, “Are you planning on perusing a career that involves Math?!” and I responded, “No… I just wanna know what careers not to choose…” So a career in electronics isn’t a very good fit for me, since it involves MATH and SCIENCE! I’m more of an art guy.

Lesson 2 in the RRF textbook was pretty straight forward though. I understood it just fine and I’m  sure am glad that I won’t be required to understand more intense electronics’ vocabulary other than the basic “current, resistance and voltage”. I’m also glad that it’s not necessary to know this stuff in order to become a good audio engineer. Maybe a couple of years ago it would’ve been a little more necessary but with technology on the rise, everything is done by the computer… so no electronics theory needed. That’s fine by me. :)
