Lesson 12 – Mix Theory

Mixing, mixing, mixing… One of the most important steps when it comes to producing a track. I’ve heard about mixing a lot but never really understood it until now. In this chapter it was clearly explained that mixing does not have a right or wrong. Mixing is more of a creative process. Everyone mixes differently, and because of it, they get uniquely different sounds. Phil has told me the same thing about mixing. He told me the exact same thing as the book did, everyone has a different style of mixing. One thing you can learn though is how to prepare for a mix. Although everyone has their own way of preparing for a mix also, you can learn from others and use their techniques to get ready and set to start mixing. Phil showed me how he gets ready when it comes to mixing and how he prepares his workspace to not hinder his workflow and have everything go smoothly. It wasn’t that hard and it was interesting to see that mixing really has to do with you and how you want it to be.
