Lesson 4 – Connectivity

This lesson was all about connectors and how they function to make sound travel. It also talked about audio signals and stuff like that. Ye… Not the most exciting chapter. Like always, I read through the chapter first and then did all the reviews and the quiz. Later on the Tuesday Oct. 1st. I went in for my class session at the studio. Everything went fine. I turned my chapter quiz into Phil and he went through it. He explained some things about the signals and connections they use at the studio. I do enjoy going one on one with my mentor because he can explain things that I really didn’t understand in the book. After Phil was done explaining and showing me examples of the things I had read in the book, it was “hands on” time. He had me patch some things just so I could experience connectivity for myself.  We also worked on project Josquin and he had recorded recently. In this project they had me editing vocals. “Pitching” is what they called it. Basically, what they had me do was correct the vocals of a lead singer by putting the parts that were out of tune in tune. We did this through a plug-in called “vocalign”. It wasn’t too hard for me since I had done similar things with a plug-in called “melodyne”. It was very similar, just some things that were different here and there. In the end it all turned out good. I felt proud of myself. I think I did a good job and Josquin and Phil agreed. I guess all those years of fooling around producing my own songs at home were coming in handy.
