I arrived at Track Star Studios at 9:50 am and looked over my notes until the sound engineer (Phil) came and let me in. We talked fro a bit about what brought me to the recording connection and what experience, if any, I’ve had with music and sound. Phil gave me a tour of the recording studio and then explained the path the sound takes to get to the computer. I watched as he connected the channels from the patch bay to the amps to the computer interface and was then asked to demonstrate it back. From there we looked at the computer program, ProTools, and Phil explained the interface and demonstrated the use of the different windows and tools. After having it all explained it was time for me to take my turn at the computer. I imported clips of pre-recorded instruments for one verse and one chorus and then I just went to town playing with the different tools and clips. I finished up with an edited clip that was listen-able (Don’t think that’s a real word, but oh well) and scheduled my next day with Josquin and that was pretty much the end of my first day at Track Star!
