So one thing I like to do is watch videos of engineers/musicians working in the studio. I think these vids are very helpful in a few different ways. One way is seeing different techniques you see these guys/girls are using. Even if the technique is used for a different genre, you can still apply it in your mixes. Another way is seeing the gear in the studio. We all know the saying, it's not about the gear you use, but what you do with what you have. And it's very tru. But, seeing the gear that your favorite artist use can at least point you in the right direction in terms of what sound you are going for. And one more way would be seeing the process that these artist/engineers use in day to day work. Seeing what works and what does not can help save you some headaches down the road. I suggest watching a few in the studio videos to soak up some cool tips and trips
