Building A Network Posted on 2015-12-15 by Jason Abranches

Last week was my first studio lesson at The Grill studios in Emeryville CA. When I walked in I could hear tracks being made from a few different rooms and met one of the engineers while I was waiting for my lesson to start. Seeing his work zone and what he was doing was super cool and it made me excited to start building my at home setup. Once my session started with Zach, we got down to business and I learned even more than i thought in just a couple hours. The studio was beautiful and we messed a bit with the board, looking over frequencies, harmonics, and decibel readings.

After we parted ways I got to it with chapter two. Basic electronics isnt the most glorious chapter but its essencial to understanding the basics of what you are working with, otherwise you just look rediculous. As well as working through my chapter, I linked up with a bassist who stopped into my work and we decided to put something together. He and his band have a base recording of a 6 minute song they have been working on. I stayed up overnight writing lyrics over it. I have looked into some recording mics and in the next month I think we are going to get together and give it a solid go at a home recording.

Not only is would that be my first experience recording, it would be my first experience singing. Stepping out of my comfort zone and useful networking has been the theme the last week. Tomorrow I go in for session number two at Hyde Street Studios in San Francisco. Cant wait.
