Fairly straightforward chapter/ class on all the different types of analog and digital cables and their connector ends. Good diagrams included of wires/ layout/ sheilding/ how much load they can handle, etc. Also quick rundown of proprietary protocols they use and can handle. Good to learn some, see some, know what they do. In class, we went over the entire signal flow from initial vibrations in the air to monitors, and possible routings, I think many of the steps along the way are automated and will not need to be thought of (like digital to audio conversion and back, and low pass and high pass filters), but good to know they are there in case of troubleshooting- looking for that "hum" or signal noise...In class, we also went over signal path, all buttons on the mixing board, and ways to route the signal, patch bays, inputs, returns, normalized connections, etc. I won't remember it all, but I've been reassured that we will go over it again and again...There was a cue button with a skull and crossbones on it on the mixing board.....wonder what that button does?!

What are the creative things people have come up with? So it begins... Read More >>
