What kind of mics are good and in what configuration is covered in this chapter. In the studio, we placed mics around the room, and close on a snare drum..in the book, so much theory incorporating the pick up patterns, the combining of mics and their fields, some people have put great thought into these things! Good to have lots of tools to cover whatever might be thrown at you, whatever instrument/ input, whatever environments you might encounter, pretty fascinating. One near, two far, many far away, distance from source, angle, and considerations about how resonant the instrument is, the length of the sound waves, the material it's reverberating, all of it can come into play.
