Our second week at Jingletown, we continued working on the SSL. We further explored the board, this time with a focus on automation. My previous experience with automation is limited to DAW style automation--manipulating and writing paramters in the box--so learning how to write passes using faders, pans, sends, etc on the fly was really interesting and gave me an idea of how intuitive that type of automation can be. On top of doing automation we also did a rough mix of a short jam band type song completely on the board, using some of the studios outboard gear and onboard compressors and EQs. Overall a really fun lesson.
